Inter 3-2 Milan, player ratings
AC Milan lose the derby against Inter in a match where the rossoneri had every chance of coming out as victorious. Several defensive mistakes proved very costly.
Donnarumma 6: Icardi beats him three times, not much he could have done because the deviations of the nerazzurri’s number 9 are dirty but winning, finding impossible angles to score from.
Musacchio 6: From the three centre back’s he is perhaps the one to have done enough. He holds fine Perisic in the first half, then in the second half tries to do more up front taking extra responsibilities in the offensive phase. Contributes in the first goal of Suso.
Bonucci 5: It’s hard to understand why, but AC Milan’s captain rarely has performed at his normal levels. The first two goals from Icardi are his mistakes: on the first Maurito arrives from behind while on the second he is left alone in the middle.
Romagnoli 5,5: Candreva is a bad client and also Borja Valero, often looks to penetrate his area. Very rarely Ricardo Rodriguez gives him a hand.
Borini 7: The skeptics should stay away from this humble player able to reinvent himself in a role where he can be decisive. And even in the derby he was again, one the best Milan players on the field. Forces Perisic to play more in defense and packs the assist for Bonaventura 2-2 equalizer.
Kessie 5: The only thing worthy of note from his derby happens, chronologically, one minute before his substitution, reading well the corridor that Borini had opened. Then he never enters the field. It’s clear that Milan need urgently to find a substitute for him in January to help Franck catch a breath.
Cutrone 6: He enters the game and the rossoneri raise their level. Confident between Inter’s defenders, forces Skriniar to never pass the middle of the field
Biglia 5: Fights in the first half while in the second tries to unsuccessfully organize the team. He loses the ball in the counterattack that brings Inter 2-1 in advantage. A very costly rookie mistake. The rossoneri have yet to see Lucas Biglia of Lazio.
Bonaventura 6: In the total void of Milan’s first half is the only one trying to do something. He often tries (sometimes too much) to dribble opponent. In the second half he improves considerably like the rest of the team score Milan’s second goal.
Rodriguez 4: One day, when he will stop playing football, he will tell us the reason behind today’s madness committing foul on D’Ambrosio in the 90th minute with the ball nowhere near. Candreva causes many problems for Milan on his flak and Rodriguez gives him the space for the cross from which Inter score the first goal. Saves a sure goal from Eder just second before causing the decisive penalty.
Suso 6,5: Struggles tremendously to find his center of gravity within the 3-5-2 so much so that in the first half he rarely touches the ball. In the second half, he changed completely playing as winger and scores a marvellous goal. Always dangerous for the rest of the game. Real pity wasting Suso as second striker.
Andre Silva 5,5: Left alone in the middle with Miranda and Skriniar, he grows in the second half when he finds the post denying him his first goal in Serie A. Afterwards, while fighting a lot, he fades away.
